What is the difference between ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001?

Simple Explanation

  • ISO 9001 → Quality: Are we providing quality products/services and satisfying customers?
  • ISO 14001 → Environment: Are we controlling our environmental impacts?
  • ISO 45001 → Health & Safety: Are we protecting our workers from workplace hazards and risks?

Example

For a construction company:

  • ISO 9001: Ensures construction work is properly planned, controlled, and meets customer requirements.
  • ISO 14001: Controls construction waste, dust, noise, fuel usage, and other environmental impacts.
  • ISO 45001: Controls risks such as working at height, electrical hazards, machinery, lifting operations, and PPE requirements.

These standards have a similar management-system structure, so an organization can integrate all three into an Integrated Management System (IMS).
